Library Policies

Registration Policy

(Approved by the Board of Trustees 01/20/2010)

  1. Residents of the Town of North Greenbush, Rensselaer, and Albany Counties are eligible for a borrower’s card free of charge. Identification, including current address, must be presented at the time of registration. Proper identification must also be presented when replacing a lost card or updating information (for example: change of address). Identification may be: NYSdriver’s license, other photo ID or government-issued ID. Proof of residency may include a dated business document with current residential address (phone bill, water bill, tax bill).
  2. One library card will be issued per person system wide. A fee of $1.00 will be charged to replace a lost card.
  3. Children over 5 and under 18 may register for a library card with a parent or legal guardian’s signature.
  4. Adult cards will be issued to patrons 18 years or older.

Circulation Policy

(Approved by the Board of Trustees 01/20/2010)

  1. A VALID Library card must be presented to take out materials.
  2. Check out period:
    1. Most library materials circulate for 28 days.
    2. New adult fiction, new adult non-fiction, magazines, and holiday books circulate for 14 days.
    3. Interlibrary loan items are checked out according to the policies of the lending agency. If an item is damaged or lost, the patron must settle the bill with the lending library.
    4. DVD’s and videocassettes circulate for 3 days with a limit of 3 DVD’s and 3 videocassettes per adult library card. A patron must be 18 years of age or older to borrow DVD’s and videocassettes.
  3. Materials may be renewed online or by telephone.
  4. Most materials may be renewed up to 2 times unless requested by another patron.
  5. Holiday items may not be renewed.
  6. Reference and local history materials do not circulate.

Book Donations

The library accepts donations of items that are in good saleable condition. Donations that do not meet the needs of our book sale will be returned to the donor for disposal.

What we can sell:

  • Books published in the last 5 years
  • Recent bestsellers
  • Clean copies of “Classic” titles (Not textbooks or books marked up by students)
  • Children’s Books
  • DVDs and Books on CD (No videos or Books on Cassette)

What we cannot sell:

  • Books in poor condition (torn or yellowed pages, musty, no covers, books that have been written in)
  • Text books
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed books
  • Encyclopedias and Reference books
  • Discarded library books

Please limit donations to 1 or 2 boxes at a time. We have no storage space.
